Get pumped about an exciting change coming July 8th to the number of IT account passwords you’ll need to remember!

June 25th, 2013 by Lynda S. LaRoche

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

Information Services is excited to announce a change to the number of IT account passwords you will need to remember beginning July 8th.

Image of 3 accounts to 2 accounts

Timeline for change – July 8th through October 18th

Why not take advantage of remembering one less password as soon as possible? Starting July 8th, a step-by-step checklist will be available on the IT KnowledgeBase.

Reasons for change

You spoke and we listened – We heard your feedback regarding the requirement to remember three different passwords for your IT accounts, so we synced the final two passwords for the IT systems housed on-campus.

Enhanced security for your online identity - With the increase in identity theft, enhancing password requirements and including a CAPTCHA reduces risks, thus creating a safer online DePauw environment..

Checklist for creating your DePauw Account

To sync your e-Services account with your network/Moodle/printing account, we are creating a step-by-step checklist for you to follow. Starting July 8th, browse to the IT KnowledgeBase or take advantage of one of the opportunities for assistance that are outlined below. Syncing your accounts is a one-time process.

Opportunities for assistance – Beginning July 8th

KnowIT! - As mentioned before, the IT KnowledgeBase offers 24/7 access to a broad spectrum of self-service support information and documentation.

TrainIT! - Take advantage of one of the following training opportunities offered by our Technical Trainer, Dave Diedriech:

HelpDesk Office Hours - Browse to the Workshop and Event Calendar to find the most current list of Dave’s Office Hours at the HelpDesk.

Department Training Sessions - Email ddiedriech@depauw.edu or call (765) 658-6442 to schedule a time for Dave to visit your department to walk your staff through this process.

SupportIT! - If you have tried the above options and still have questions, contact the HelpDesk Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at helpdesk@depauw.edu or (765) 658-4294 or stop by our office located on the lower level of the Student Union Building.

We hope this change is as exciting to you as it is to us!

Best,
Lynda S. LaRoche

Mandy Russ ‘12, an ITAP Student Director and mathematics major, is serving as DePauw’s Google Student Ambassador this year.

After submitting her proposal last summer, Mandy was one of just 140 students selected from 109 campuses who were flown to Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, for a 2-day summit in August.

The Google Student Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students to act as liaisons between Google and their universities. These ambassadors learn about innovative Google products and programs, plan and host fun events for students on their campus, and help Google better understand each university’s culture.

DePauw Google Apps is expanding to offer more applications

February 25th, 2011 by Carol L. Smith

Watch a video about the new applications

On March 3, 2011, DePauw’s Google Apps for Education domain will be expanded to enable you to access several more Google services with your depauw.edu account.

Once this update has been applied, the next time you log in to your DePauw Google Apps account you will see a one-time confirmation screen that describes the new services. After that, you can begin using them with your depauw.edu account.

Additional services will include Blogger, Reader, and Picasa, among others and can be found under the “More” link at the top of the Google window.

Once your DePauw Google Apps account has been expanded, here are two key points you should be aware of:

  • If you are already logged in to your DePauw Google Apps account, Google will automatically sign you into each of these additional services the first time you visit it. Remember that data you save or post there using your DePauw account is subject to the University’s Electronic Communication and Acceptable Use Policy.
  • If you already have a personal account in one of these expanded Google Applications that you created with your depauw.edu address, the next time you log in after the update Google will walk you through steps to create a new personal username for that account. Afterwards, the data there is safe and you can continue to access that personal Google account using the new username. You can find more information on resolving this issue at on DePauw’s Google Apps help site at Resolving Mulitple Accounts.

If you have any questions regarding the upgrade, contact the HelpDesk (765-658-4294, helpdesk@depauw.edu).

Spring 2011 – A Mid-Year Update about IT at DePauw

February 12th, 2011 by Carol L. Smith

From Carol L. Smith, CIO

The following provides information about the IT projects planned for this spring and offers some quick updates to help you wrap up from the fall’s slate of activities.

Before you get to those topics, though, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year of upgrades, updates and transitions in IT at DePauw. Over the past 12 months, we adopted a new email system, replaced the entire fleet of printer/copiers (80+ of them), upgraded the campus network system, added off-campus VPN access to network resources, implemented a new print/copy accounting system, and issued enhanced ID cards to the DePauw community. Whew!

Now that everything is nearly complete, we are excited for what these upgrades will provide for supporting communication and collaboration, enabling better remote access, encouraging sustainability, and improving security in many aspects of our campus IT activities.

Thank you for your patience and perseverance in helping make these projects successful!

If you have any questions about these (or any other IT-related projects), please don’t hesitate to contact me at clsmith@depauw.edu.

– Carol.

Topics in the following include:

  1. Campus desktop/laptop inventory project
  2. Upcoming system maintenance and planned e-Services outage – March 19-22
  3. Google Apps – New services coming
  4. Helping students get logged in to Moodle, the DePauw network, printers, etc.
  5. The new campus Network (P, I and U)
